Have just watched episode 1 of your second season on i-tunes and as a dedicated fan from series 1 it is SO good to see you girls back. Love the owl!
I am currently based in India and find it tricky to get some of the crafty bits and pieces you use in your projects. Wondering whether you might consider in the future offering an online ordering service for the products/brands you use? I know some companies do ship internationally but when you are just wanting small quantities it’s not really worth it. Would be great to be able to order packs of everything you need for your projects. Bit of a sideline for you in product fulfilment?!?!??!?!

Just watched your show and loved it! Thank you for the cute owl pattern. I want to teach my 9 year old how to sew and she would love to have her own pin cushion and thought this would be a great first time project for her and I to make. Besides making the owl pin cushion, I think I will take your suggestion and make an owl pillow for her bed also. So, glad to see your back and thank you for the oh so cute pattern. I have been needing a new pin cushion idea for awhile now, but haven’t seen anything cute enough until this! I’ll be “owlly” until I get it done!
My main sewing machine is Janome and is 15 years old and still running great. My travel/class machine is also Janome which works out great because I can interchange presser feet. I would love the serger or the embroidery machine. Thanks.

What a wonderful project to wake up to! I just know I will have to make the owl pillow for my grand daughter! Try to get her involved in it too. Maybe make the pin cushion into a shelf sitter with the beads instead due to her sisters nut allergy.

So glad season 2 has arrived!! Quite the owls!! I enjoyed watching that project. If you use some steel wool in the centre of the owl’s belly as well as the “stuffing” you were talking about the steel wool area keeps the ends of your pins sharp (also helps to file off those little barbs you sometimes get). It would be wonderful to win one of your machines! Keep up the good work girls!.

I love this idea my 2 daughters and their YW friends love sewing all these cute small stuffies. Not to mention, I love them to place in my Art Studio at the Elementary School where I teach! What an absolutely adorable project!! I love owls:) I have a question though. My daughter is highly allergic to walnuts so I cannot have them in the house. Is there anything else that would work just as well that is not nut related?

Love the owl pincushion. I was looking around on the web for different pincushions as I had just picked up a bag of crushed walnut shells at the local pet store. I plan on making my girlfriends pincushions for Christmas. I know that the cute owl will be in that group of gifts. Thank you for all the hard work you do to get the shows together. Memories of Mom!! My mother was and owl collector and so I got hooked. It will be fun to make these cute little guys –she would have loved them. I make baby blankets for the new babes from her stash and these will be fun cause she has left stuff from the sixty years that I have been around and there is some interesting fabric there.

The project of the owl is very cute and easy, and using different fabrics are beautiful, I like to make a larger one to put on my shelf as a symbol of inspiration and knowledge, I can not wait to do mine!!!.

Does anyone know what you can fill it with other thank walnut pellets? My son is deathly allergic and since my sewing room is the same as his bedroom, i’d better not fill them with it.

I have waited all summer for you to start up again. I purchased 2 of your Bloom e-patterns have made the hooded towel and did my first embroidery on it with my new 350E Janome. Still trying to learn how to use it and any hints you could give would be very helpful. I guess I’m just a little nervouse about lining up and centering when I do the embroidery. Thay would be a good show for people that have new machines and are a little unsure of what they are doing. Thanks again for all your knowledge you are sharing and sometimes its just the better way you are doing it than how I have been.

my daughter’s room theme is owls, we are making some pink and purple owls right now! she picked her own fabrics out of my scrap bin, for her’s to be a shelf sitter i am going to put some beans at the bottom so he will sit. mine will be a pink cushion!love that i have everything to make this TODAY! I LOOOOOOOOOVE this owl! My 3 year old was watching it with me and got so excited she ran to my scrap box and got out some scraps to make one! We are going on vacation this weekend and she insists her and her little sister NEED one for the trip!
Also, that serger, oh my goodness. If I won that serger no one would be able to stop me! I’d be making clothes for everyone! The one thing that slows me down when it comes to making clothes is not being able to wash them too often since they still fray with my zig zag stitch!

I’m a newbie to DIY Dish. I really enjoyed the video. The only sewing I ever did was my children’s Halloween costumes when they were children. Now, I have an 18 month old granddaughter; and I’ve just started sewing again. I’ll have to check if there is a way that I can check out last season’s shows as well. Thanks for being out there.

I found your site in the off season and have had fun looking through past episodes for inspiration. My last project were a bunch of fabric flowers for my mom’s group. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for this season. My tried and true sewing machine that I use without fear of breaking it is a Janome…an OLD Janome. I just can’t part with it.

I love the little owls! I am going to try doing a bunch of them in pink. My daughter competes in February at the Pink Invitational, and our gym is trying to raise money for a breast cancer group that benefits from this meet. I was thinking of pink owls with “save the hooters” ribbons.

Boy it took me a long time to read all the comments and they are all good, You two are so special to me I always wished I could have twins, and I did try 12 times in 20 years my oldest is 47 and the youngest is 27. I had to give up I was getting to old to have more. But guess what? I have a Kimberly and a Kristina, and a Katrina. And all the kids are close and their spouses are close too, Now I even have 7 grandchildren – more to come I’m sure. I have always been a sewer, now I have an embroidery machine, and my daughter Kristina sews for a living, she owns a costume shop in Lombard, and she really wears out sewing machines, so if I do win either surger or embroidery machine I would love to give it to her, she really works hard. I really really really need an embroidery machine, ok well maybe not need, but want. But dh is getting medically retired from the Air Force and so we are “starting over” with a career for him so funds don’t permit new machines at the moment. Kudos to Janome for the machines!

I love the owls- thank you for the pattern. Walnut litter so interesting- I used to use plastic pellets but this seems like a better idea- much more environmental. You two are great. Vivi

great pincusion. I think though that I would stuff mine with silica sand instead of the walnut stuff – only because I have used silica sand for other pincushions and find it easy to look for and cheap.

My 8 yr old daughter and I made one of the OWLS last night. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to start on it. Instead of a pin cushion, we made ours into a little DOGGIE TOY for our 7lb Papillon puppy, Reeses. She loves it! I’m going to make more for pin cushions and make a pillow too! So cute. Thanks for sharing. Just a little tip. I use a large knitting needle to stuff things into spaces that are hard to reach and also for smoothing out seams as I press seams that have been turned inside out and needs a sharp seam.

loved it! am on the lookout for the “walnut litter” as well as liked the idea of using the wonder tape to hold the closing opening while i stittch it closed. Right now, my oldest DD has an older Kenmore and it’s zigzag feature refuses to work. This year she’s making her own homecoming dress (with a little help and the use of some of mom’s machines!).

Owls! What a great seasonal project to give as gifts when your guests are leaving (have them in a pretty bowl or basket near the door so your guests may choose their favorite) or at the table to be a part of the place settings! I love your owl pincushion. I m going to make it right away. I voulnteer at a Refugee center helping the ladies with their sewing. Either teach them new sewing or embroidery techniques or helping them with their own projects. This will be a project that they love! Thank you so much for bringing all this creativity to our homes!

Love DIY and JANOME, what a combination! It would be wonderful to use a Serger, right now I have to use an overcast stitch on my regular machine and it takes forever. An embroidery machine would also be heaven, as I don’t have one and if I want embroidery have to buy the pre-made commercial patches. Thanks for sharing the tip on the Wonder Tape, finishing up that last open seam is always tricky for me. These owls would be cute in autumn colors on my mantle, or in holiday fabrics and tucked in a Christmas tree.

Thank you so much for your creativity. I have been in a crafting slump. My husband just deployed to Afghan and I tried to take on an embroidery project that my machine couldn’t handle. This owl pin cusion will be perfect- it will tie in with the Halloween theme, and will be useful as well. I just thought of this problem I am having and wonder if anyone out there has experienced the same. I make the cutest stuff pumpkin centerpieces for the holidays and have sold them at craft fairs. The key to my profit is low inventory, I used to get my polyfill at the local Walmart . A five lb box was just under Nine dollars. Well they don’t carry it in the stores or on line. Try to find somewhere where polyfill is affordable. Can any one out there help? Any ideas or suppliers would be appreciated Thank you

This was such a great tutorial. I didn’t need another pin cushion so I used your pattern to make appliqued tea towels. It was a little difficult for this beginning sewist but I loved every minute of it and the finished project tickles me pink.

She’s only 6, but she has made a purse, decorated her own t-shirt, a jumper, and this time she sewed a quilt for quiltsforkids.org . How ironic, though, I was helping my step-daughter (7 yo) today with one of her first sewing projects, making a small stuffed owl. I wish I saw your owl project before we drafted our own today! I love the ears and legs!

The owls are so cute! I used the pattern this weekend to make my daughter an owl embellished shirt and once it was shrunk down I made her a hair bow with a detachable bow. It was a bigger hit with her then I expected.

these are really cute owls. With this pattern I’ll be able to give my best friend an owl I made. She loves owls and I can use fabric that calls to her. She is not much on sewing but they are great for sitting somewhere when you need a pick me up or a escape to the wide outdoor world when its to hot or cold. Thanks.

I have watched since the beginning and am so glad you are back! I made a bunch of owls similar to this last year but bigger and out of fleece. My daughters sleep with them every night, we love the owl!
